The club has identified coaching as an area we would like to improve in order to expand the range of training sessions and to provide more focused sessions on a more frequent basis to all our members, both adult and junior.  To do this, the club needs more coaches, and we would encourage any member, either old or new to the club, to consider becoming a coach.

If you’d like to find out more about the info provided, please contact the club secretary at secretary@galwaytri.ie

TRIATHLON COACHING PATHWAY

TRI-LEADER:

To become a Tri-Leader, participants will complete:

  • Complete the one-day Tri-Leader course
  • Complete a Safeguarding Course (Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Workshop)
  • Complete a basic First Aid Course
  • Garda Vetting (only needed if you are working with juniors)

As a qualified Tri Leader, you will be able to:

  • Set up a session and assist a coach during a training session.
  • Help run and understand a junior session which a coach planned.
  • Supervise TI events and sessions.

As a club, we will look to arrange courses for our members who wish to achieve their coaching certification; please keep an eye out here and on the club WhatsApp Broadcast groups for info.  Alternatively, you can arrange your own certification through Triathlon Ireland.

LEVEL 1 COACH

Once a Tri Leader, you can commence your ITU Level 1 Coaching Qualification. Then you will be able to deliver triathlon sessions to groups of triathletes without supervision.

To become a Level One coach, participants will:

  • Complete a 3-day interactive and practical coaching course.
  • Sign a TI code of conduct.
  • Complete the WADA Coach True (Anti-Doping Education) Certification.
  • Complete a Safeguarding course.
  • Revalidate their certification annually and complete CPD.

As a T.I. Level one coach, you will also be accredited by Sport Ireland Coaching and ITU and be covered under T.I. insurance to deliver sessions.

The Level 1 course is three days over two weekends. As a Level 1 coach, there is continuous CPD, and you will have the option to concentrate your coaching on specific groups such as age groupers, juniors, women, new to tri, high performance, and para triathletes.

Once you are a Level 1 coach, we will have a mentoring programme providing ongoing support, which is particularly helpful in the first 6-12 months of your coaching career.

LEVEL 2 COACH

We don’t have many Level 2 coaches in the club, so we would encourage members thinking of gaining their certification to consider at least progressing to Level 2.  The club will need you!

To become a Level One coach, participants will:

  • Complete a 5-day interactive and practical course with substantial post-course work and assessments.
  • Sign a TI code of conduct.
  • Complete the WADA Coach True (Anti-Doping Education) Certification.
  • Complete a Safeguarding course.
  • Revalidate their certification annually or complete CPD.

Level 2 coaches will gain ITU accreditation, be covered under T.I. insurance and sign up to the T.I. code of conduct.
