Pool Swim Sessions

We are excited to be getting back to the pool – Here are all the details you need to know in preparation for our return

  • Sessions will go on sale at 10 am Thursday 2nd September via the website. Set your reminders now– If you have not registered on the GTC member zone PLEASE do it now as each account must be manually approved. You will not be able to purchase on time unless you do and you could miss out (Your TI number is 10078040 if you still need to register)
  • Sessions will start Monday 6th September for 7/8 weeks (no Sunday/Monday sessions on the bank holiday weekend) at a cost of €65/€75 for Ocean Fitness (7/8wks), €65 for NUIG (8wks), €55 for Renmore (8wks, 2 will be without a coach but the set will be provided)
  • Numbers allowed at sessions are limited to 12 and will sell out quickly. If you are not committed to attending the sessions please do not take a space from someone who is
  • If limitations change then additional spaces will be released. If you miss out, let swim@galwaytri.ie know and we will add you to a waitlist
  • Only one session per member until announced otherwise. If you purchase more than one session you will be cancelled from all and will need to repurchase your preferred session (if still available) – No exceptions
  • Due to additional Covid19 admin and contact tracing requirements, as well as to ensure consistency at sessions, swimmers will not be able to swap/give sessions to another member
  • There will be no WhatsApp groups (HOORAY!) but you must check your emails in advance of each session in case of any important updates
  • We have taken every suitable session available to us in Galway, if more become available at suitable times for members and coaches we will add. This depends on other clubs dropping their sessions
  • Swimmers must follow all restrictions in place at individual pools and the Triathlon Ireland Covid19 guidelines

What do these new fancy names mean???????? I don’t like change!!!!!!!! HOW WILL I POSSIBLY CHOOSE MY LEVEL!!!!
The old names have been around for years, people have got stuck in their ways, we haven’t had a level 1 session in a very long time and we’re back to the pool after nearly a year. So we’re mixing it up and going with more meaningful names for the levels. See some guidelines below:

ALL sessions, regardless of level, will include technique. And unless your name is Lucy Charles-Barclay or Jan Frodeno, everyone needs help with this!

Improvers:

  • 100m time without rest: 2mins/2.05
  • For swimmers who require a lot of stroke correction and enjoy a little more rest
  • Not speed or endurance focussed
  • Suitable for previous level 2 swimmers or slower swimmers from the level 2+/3 sea swims

Intermediate:

  • 100m time without rest: 1.50/1.55
  • Sessions will generally cover 1.5k+
  • Suitable for previous level 3 swimmers or slower level 4 swimmers

Advanced:

  • 100m time without rest: 1.40/1.45
  • Sessions will generally cover 2k+
  • Suitable for previous level 4 swimmers or faster level 3 swimmers

Please choose a session suitable to you based on your 100m time and stamina. You will be assessed on your first week and will be moved to a different session (if space) or refunded. This is so you and your fellow swimmers get the most out of each session.

HAPPY SWIMMING!

All the best,

Sarah
