GTC Bike TT Series is back for the summer of 2022! The series will kick off on the 25th of April and will be held over six Monday evenings alternating between three routes (Craughwell (12km), Bushypark (7km), and Athenry (15km)) – Full details and FAQ below (no events on bank holidays)

HOW DO I REGISTER?
Registration is done on a per-event basis and is done on the Galway Triathlon Club Website in the Memberzone

WHEN WILL THE SERIES BE RUN?
The series will be run over 8 weeks, with no event on the 2nd of May and 6th of June due to the Bank Holidays

Event 1: Craughwell (12km) – 25th April – 7 PM
Event 2: Bushypark (7km) – 9th May – 7 PM
Event 3: Athenry (15km) – 16th May – 7 PM
Event 4: Craughwell (12km) – 23rd May – 7 PM
Event 5: Bushypark (7km) – 30th May – 7 PM
Event 6: Athenry (15km) – 13th June – 7 PM

WHAT DO I NEED TO PARTICIPATE?
You just need a working bike and a helmet – The Bike TT series is firstly intended to be a fun event and we would encourage beginners to participate – It is a race against yourself! We have had members participate on touring bikes and gravel bikes – If it has 2 wheels (and no motor!) it should be good for the TT series

IS THERE A COST TO PARTICIPATE?
Nope! Entry is free and is part of your GTC 2022 membership

HOW DOES THE TIME TRIAL WORK?
Each participant will be allocated an individual start time which will be staggered every 1min. Start times will be allocated based on bike type and gender (Ladies Road Bikes, Ladies TT Bike, Men’s Road Bikes, Men’s TT Bikes). Start times will be shared during the day of the event via email

DO I NEED TO PARTICIPATE IN ALL THE EVENTS?
No, there is no requirement to take part in all of the events and we would encourage that you register for an event even if you can only attend just 1 of the 6 events – Registration will be on a per-event basis on our website. If you have never tried a bike TT we highly recommend trying it out and we think you will be hooked!

WHAT ARE THE ROUTES?

  • Craughwell – 12km course – Starting opposite Craughwell Furniture and Finishing at Tom Doyle Motors – This is generally a flat and fast route, especially if the wind is blowing in the right direction!
  • Bushypark – At just less than 7km long this route should not be underestimated… The route will start where the N59 becomes a double road (just after Glenlo Abbey) and will finish at the Barna Golf course – This is a 3.87km climb and should provide an exciting challenge
  • Athenry – An 15km route from the Athenry Football Club with just left turns (rectangular course) on smooth and mostly flat roads with some small bumps over the motorway which will put a sting in the legs
ARE THERE PRIZES?
There will be prizes for the overall winners (Men / Ladies) of the series and King / Queen of the Mountain for the Barna hillIf you have any questions please email Stef at bike@galwaytri.ie

We hope you see you on the start line
