On Wednesday evening GTC was well represented at the inaugural Mick Molloy 5k Road Race in Oughterard. This run is new to the calendar, and was hosted by Corrib Athletics Club and Oughterard GAA.
Over 150 runner lined up on the country roads for a great run just south of Oughterard. The leader from the start was the hotly tipped Abaas Adam Edris of Tribal Running Club who stormed home in a rapid 15:35. GTC man, Aidan Kelly was not far behind, finishing a close second in his age group on 18:36.
Shortly after was GTC’s James Brennan, coming across the line with the ladies winner, Julie Bradshaw of Galway City Harriers, at 18:50. Second lady was GTC coach Kate Smyth on 20:01.
The race was followed by an excellent tea, sandwich and treat reception at Oughterard GAA HQ. Described by one runner as “better than a wedding” for the sheer quantity of sandwiches and home bake treats.
Prizes were MC’ed by councillor Ollie Turner, and were presented by former Olympian, Mick Molloy (RIP)’s brother Matt Molloy.
