FULL NAME: Senan Francis McDonnell- BIRTHPLACE: Galway
- OCCUPATION: Student studying Aeronautical Engineering
- PREVIOUS SPORTS: Hurling, Football, swimming and athletics
- SWIM / BIKE / RUN – which do you prefer and why? For training, I’d definitely have to say cycling. It’s probably the most social of the three, and I love the fact that you can just disappear for hours and explore new places.
- FAVOURITE EVENT: My favourite event I’ve ever done was probably the European Cup Dublin in 2023. The bike course that they designed was really fun whilst also being challenging with some hills, which are rare on the crit type circuits on which we usually race.
- SPORTING CLAIM TO FAME: The sporting achievement I’m probably most proud of is my 3rd-place finish in the European Junior Cup in Alanya in 2025. 2025 had been a difficult year at times with injury, so to get my first international podium in my last junior race was such a nice way to round out the year.
- GUILTY PLEASURE My guilty pleasure is definitely apple juice. I could drink litres of the stuff, although I’ve been making an effort to cut back recently.
- FAVOURITE PLACE TO TRAIN? I’ve been really fortunate to have had the opportunity to train in so many cool places. But I’d have to say the most memorable place I ever trained was Sierra Nevada last year when we were on altitude camp with the Norwegian National team.
- YOUR GTC HERO: I’d have to say my GTC hero is Noel Carrick. Noel was such a great volunteer played such a key role in the youth club when I was younger. There are so many young triathletes with a love for the sport today that have Noel to thank for his involvement in those early days.
